Why enroll in a Biomedical Science program?

All of the pre-professional course requirements for schools of human medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, osteopathy, podiatry, optometry, pharmacy and law can be completed through the Biomedical Science program. A higher percentage of students with a Biomedical Science degree are accepted into these professional schools than with any other degree at Texas A & M Biomedical Science students complete the basic coursework required by allied health schools and related training programs including nursing, medical technology, health care administration, medical transcription, occupational therapy, recreation therapy and dietetics.


What standards do students have to maintain?

Students must meet all general admission requirements (i.e. transcripts, deadlines) for general admission to Texas A & M. Students must not receive any grade below a “B” in all of their Common Body Knowledge (CBK) science and math coursework. Also, students must maintain no less than a cumulative 3.60 grade point average in the courses taken at Odessa College and must be eligible for graduation from OC.


What is the arrangement between OC and Texas A & M University?

An agreement known as a 2 + 2 Articulation Agreement exists between Odessa College and Texas A & M. Students take two years of coursework at Odessa College and are guaranteed that they will have automatic acceptance into the Biomedical Science program, also known as the BIMS Program, at Texas A & M University if they meet certain standards. The final two years of the four year program will be taken at Texas A & M University.


What are the advantages of this 2 + 2 program at OC?

Students who are successful in the 2 + 2 program will not have to compete with other students who are applying to the Texas A & M program. Financially, there is a big advantage to the program. At the current tuition rates, attending Odessa College for the first two years will save students approximately $17,000 in tuition and fees.
