I was born and raised in Seattle. After obtaining my doctorate, I was awarded a National Institutes of Health Post-Doctoral Fellowship in neurology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. Later, I accepted a position with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to lead a world-wide research effort into the causes and treatments for inherited neuromuscular diseases. My career has spanned some of the most exciting new frontiers in medicine and biology including the human genome project, stem cell research and gene therapy clinical trials. After retiring and moving in 2007 to Midland/Odessa where my wife and I have close family, I was offered the opportunity to teach at Odessa College. I jumped at the opportunity because it’s my sincere desire to attract talented and motivated students to our outstanding Biology program and help them begin their journey to the exciting frontiers of medicine and biology.

My interest in biology began before I knew what it was. My interest in teaching, started when I was in the 8th grade with an incredibly interesting science teacher. It became stronger with each year and was always focused with the sciences, especially the biological sciences. During the 1960s and 1970s there was a much heated controversy involving creationism versus evolution. I particularly focused on this issue and would begin a lifelong search into both concepts and my fundamental belief that they were related. Although I feel I am much closer to an understanding after 43 years of discovery, the search is not over for me as it is not for many others.
