Emergency Medical Technician – Basic
The Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B)
is trained to provide emergency medical care and
transportation for sick and injured patients. This
individual will learn to perform basic interventions
with equipment typically found on an ambulance.
Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic
The Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P)
is and allied health professional whose primary focus
is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critically sick and injured patients. Paramedics perform the interventions
with the basic and advanced equipment typically found
on an ambulance.
Associate in Applied Science Degree
The associate in applied science degree will be awarded
to students who complete the prescribed degree plan
in the Emergency Medical Services Professional studies
area. The A.A.S. degree is designed to provide the
student with comprehensive skills and knowledge in
the Emergency Medical Services field, with the goal
of employment in the pre-hospital emergency service
or related field.
Each course curriculum combines lecture,
laboratory, clinical, and ambulance experience, united with critical
thinking skills, to ready the student to take the National
Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification
exam. A passing score on this exam is necessary to
file for state certification with the Texas Department
of State Health Services.
