|Components of the Upward Bound Program
Academic Component: During the school year students meet weekly with a tutor for a minimum of one hour, and on Saturdays students come to the Odessa College campus to attend academic enrichment classes, enjoy student activities, develop friendships, have dinner, and sometimes go out for the evening courtesy of Upward Bound. Students take classes in English, Spanish, Math, and receive workshops on various topics ranging from Study Skills to Test-Taking Skills to supplement their courses they are taking at their respective high schools. Transportation is provided for students outside of Odessa to the Saturday enrichment classes.
Summer Component: During the summer component, students get to experience “college life.” Upward Bound students live in the dorms at Odessa College for five weeks while taking different courses and spend the sixth week visiting metropolitan areas such as Dallas and Houston. Students stay in hotels/college residence halls, visit several attractions, attend concerts and plays, visit campuses, and several other fun and educational activities.
Bridge Component: For those high school seniors who just graduated and have actively participated in the program- The Upward Bound program pays for tuition and books for up to two college courses at OC during the Summer I session.
How much does Upward Bound cost you?
All transportation, hotel, ticket, and meal costs are provided by the Upward Bound program.
Students also receive a stipend for participating in Upward Bound. The amount of the stipend is dependent upon attendance, activeness within the program, and GPA increase.
Social/ Cultural Events
Upward Bound is also committed to rewarding the program participants for their hard work and devotion towards the success of their academic goals, therefore students are offered the opportunity to participate in several social/cultural activities such as:

̃ -Dinner & Theatre Nights
̃ -Summer trips to cities like Dallas, San Antonio, Houston and more
̃ -Concerts, movies, and the zoo
̃ -And various other fun and educational activities
