Odessa, TX — Come out and join other car enthusiasts this Saturday, September 21, for the 2024 Odessa College Car Show at Odessa College Sewell Auto Tech, located at 2425 E. 8th Street.
The show opens at 11 a.m. and is free and open to the public. This year’s event includes from 150 to 200 vehicles in 41 different classes of vehicles on display for everyone’s enjoyment. Classes of vehicles include classic and modern vehicles, muscle cars and low-riders, imports, SUVs, trucks and more.
Awards for 1st and 2nd place in each class and “Best Of” awards will be presented beginning at 2 p.m.
Auto Diesel Technology Department Chair Rob Turner said, “This is our third year to have this community event, and it has grown every year. The vision for the auto diesel technology program and the OC Sewell Auto Tech facility has been to benefit the general public and the students in our program. This event is one of the ways that we do that.”
Turner added, “We are fortunate to have community partners such as Sewell Family of Companies, Rogers Ford of Midland, Warren CAT, Summit Fleet, Chevron Fab Lab, and others who support our students, graduates and the program. They also work together generously to cover all costs of the Car Show, so that all of the proceeds may go to the Elijah Barrera Memorial Scholarship for our students.”
Elijah, a member of the first cohort of the ASSET (Automotive Student Service Education Training) program, graduated on a Friday in May of 2022. Tragically, Elijah was involved in a motorcycle accident on the following Sunday and passed away. His fellow cohort of students suggested a scholarship that was to be presented at the first OC Car Show in August 2022 be named in honor of Elijah.
Since that time our community partners also have generously donated to grow the scholarship. Any current or future students of the auto diesel program are eligible to apply for the scholarship through the OC Foundation.
Representatives from Odessa College, our community partners, and other companies and organizations such as the Odessa Fire and Rescue Department will be available to speak to Car Show attendees about opportunities that are available for students and graduates in their fields.
