Odessa College recently held two Community Forums on the topic of offering a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree in certain selected programs. The first community forum was held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 12 noon in Room 119 of the Wood Building of Math and Science, and the second was held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 5:30 pm in the Zant Community Room of the Saulsbury Campus Center. OC Vice President of Instruction Valerie Jones spoke to the attendees on a number of topics, including the selected programs in which the BAAS would be offered, the probable timeline that would be involved, and the support that OC has received from other institutions of higher education in the area for the expansion into offering the BAAS degree. Several attendees at each forum were very interested in the possibility of acquiring a BAAS degree at Odessa College, and Vice President Jones answered a number of very specific and well-developed questions - especially during the second forum. OC Department Chairs Kelby Giesler-Davis and Armin Rashvand were also on hand to lend support, providing information regarding their respective areas of Business Professions and Energy Technology, which could be those first offered as BAAS degrees.
