A much-needed skill in our community’s workforce, where trained electrical linemen are in very high demand, got a boost with the opening of the new on-campus training facility for electrical linemen.
Odessa College’s program, in partnership with Oncor Electric, had its grand opening of the new training ground, located at 200 Cummings Drive, on Thursday, Aug. 31. The grand opening included student demonstrations, information about the program’s curriculum, and comments from Gus Ortega with Oncor Electric Delivery. The public was invited to join us for the grand opening and observe the demonstrations.
Students who successfully complete the course of study often graduate from the program and have a job already waiting for them. The program is a 20-week program, and the cost to the student is $8,000, which includes climbing gear, textbooks, and the testing fee.
Anyone interested in the program can call the Odessa College Office of Continuing Education at 432-335-6580. Enrollment for spring classes is open now.
