ODESSA (June 6, 2017) – Odessa College athletes score well in athletic competition and in the classroom as shown by the recent release of the names of the National Junior College Athletics Association’s Academic All-American individuals and teams.
The NJCAA’s Individual Academic All-Americans must have met four clearly defined criteria:
(1) completed two full-time semesters or three full-time quarters of college work;
(2) participated in at least one season at the varsity level at the college from which he/she is nominated;
(3) completed a minimum of 24 semester-hours or 36 quarter-hours in the current academic year; and
(4) maintained a minimum 3.6 GPA on a 4.00 scale.
The NJCAA All-American First Team individuals, who maintained a 4.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale, are Austin Anderson (Golf), Moa Lundqvist (Women’s Basketball), Andrew Moralez (Baseball), and Tijana Simovic (Volleyball).
NJCAA All-Academic Second Team individuals with a 3.80 to 3.99 on a 4.00 scale are Matteo Bocchi (Baseball), Bojana Bolozan (Volleyball), Crystal Carrillo (Softball), Chandler Casey (Baseball), Clarissa Gonzales (Volleyball, Softball), Augustin Hole (Golf), Grant Jones (Baseball), Dustin Lewis (Baseball), Dominique McQueen (Volleyball), Andrew Merrick (Baseball), and Carlotta Onofri (Softball).
NJCAA All-Academic Third Team individuals who achieved a 3.60 to 3.79 GPA on a 4.00 scale are John Bridgeman (Baseball), Hope Deanda (Softball), Alison Fuata (Volleyball),
Matej Gaspert (Men’s Basketball), Brandi Kennedy (Softball), Chance Medina (Baseball), Abraham Moralez (Cross Country/Track & Field), Bethanie Phillips (Softball), Wade Raburn (Baseball), Winter Ridgeway (Softball) Anna Rupertova (Volleyball), and Charlie Shipp (Baseball).
Finishing on another high note, three Odessa College teams also scored exceptionally well at the end of the academic year. To qualify for the NJCAA Team Academic Award, a team had to have a 3.0 team GPA for the current academic year only. Three Odessa College teams achieved higher cumulative GPAs than the required 3.00. OC Baseball, Volleyball, and Golf teams all received NJCAA Team Academic Awards.
