ODESSA (May 14, 2024) – Odessa College, in partnership with the Sewell Family of Companies and Kaige Kubota - Odessa, is proud to announce the launch of two new programs, the General Motors Automotive Service Education Program (GM ASEP) and the Kubota TECH Program, starting in Fall 2024 at the Odessa College Sewell Auto Tech facility.
The GM ASEP program is the first of its kind in West Texas and is designed to equip students with cutting-edge skills and knowledge essential for their careers as automotive technicians. Through a blend of classroom instruction, hands-on dealership training, and the latest in industry technology and expertise, students will be fully prepared to meet the evolving demands of the automotive industry.
Their training will alternate approximately eight weeks of classroom instruction and eight weeks of hands-on training with their sponsoring dealer over a two-year period. The program also includes a paid internship with potential employers which allows students to earn while they learn and paves the way for immediate employment post-graduation.
Students who successfully complete their two-year GM ASEP program will graduate from Odessa College with an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology and their GM required technician training.
The addition of the GM ASEP program at Odessa College Sewell Auto Tech underscores OC’s and Sewell dealerships’ shared commitment to advancing automotive education and providing our students with an unparalleled choice of opportunity. The GM ASEP initiative also mirrors the success and impact of the Ford ASSET program, launched at the facility in Fall 2020, and sets a new standard for automotive education.
The Kubota TECH Program prepares technicians to inspect, service, diagnose, and repair Kubota equipment. The program also enhances the students’ understanding of diesel, tractor, and construction maintenance and repair techniques. While in training, students will have the opportunity to build professional relationships with industry experts and fellow interns as a part of their paid internship. The students work during the day in the equipment repair industry, which includes partners in the energy industry, and attend classes at the Odessa College Sewell Auto Tech facility in the evenings. Once students successfully complete their 18-month training program, they will graduate from Odessa College with an Associate Degree in Diesel Technology and will be fully certified as a Level 1 Kubota Technician.
Students in both the GM ASEP and Kubota TECH programs also will receive additional benefits such as major tool discounts of up to 60 percent and tuition reimbursement.
Prospective students eager to jumpstart their careers as an automotive technician or as a Kubota technician are encouraged to apply for the GM ASEP program or the Kubota TECH program. The programs are designed to accommodate students from various backgrounds and circumstances.
