OC-TTUHSC Early Decision Articulation Agreement to increase BSN-prepared nurses across the Permian Basin and the state

ODESSA (Sept. 9, 2021) Odessa College and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing officially announced and celebrated their Early Decision Articulation Agreement. This partnership agreement illuminates the pathway for OC nursing students to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) through TTUHSC in as little as three years.

“The collaboration with TTUHSC School of Nursing has been in process for a little over a year. The partnership is one of a shared purpose and goal – to increase the number of bachelors-prepared nurses to serve in the Permian Basin. The Odessa College nursing program strives to develop a culture of lifelong learning in our graduates. We want to empower our students to never stop making themselves better – for themselves, their families and the communities they serve. This pathway and partnership will provide Odessa College that opportunity,” said OC director of nursing Allisa Cornelius.

Dr. Karla Chapman, TTUHSC associate dean admissions, enrollment management and student affairs, added, “Through an innovative pathway called early decision, TTUHSC SON began partnering with associate degree nursing programs across the State. This has allowed students to envision for themselves that they, too, can continue on in earning their bachelor’s degree, thus laying the foundation for lifelong learning.”

Recognized during the ceremony were OC nursing students who have completed their Declaration of Intent to enter the TTUHSC School of Nursing RN to BSN program after graduating from Odessa College with their associate degree. The students received a TTUHSC patch, which will be worn on their Odessa College scrubs while they complete their Associate Degree at Odessa College. Some of these students will graduate from OC in December 2021, and will start their journey with TTUHSC SON as early as the Spring 2022 term. Since the announcement of this partnership, 28 OC students have competed their Declaration of Intent and plan on attending TTUHSC SON after graduation.
