 ENROLLMENT IS OPEN!!!

A fast growing medical career, with emphasis on rehabilitation and long-term care needs of an increasing elderly population.  This course will deliver the curriculum of Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC), and as with all our healthcare program emphasis will be placed on compassionate care.

The course provides students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. Topics include resident’s rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting, and assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety.

Clinical rotation provides a health-related, work-based, learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the instructor. Students are assigned clinical hours on Saturdays and Sundays, usually over 2 weekends, in a long term care facility and must complete 40 hours of practice.

The clinical rotation is facility dependent in accordance to their operating hours and schedule. Both weekdays and weekends may be required for clinical attendance. The Health Careers Director will meet with the instructor, and class if needed, to discuss clinical site location.

Course Prerequisite: Complio Account

Course Recommendation: Electronic Device with access to the Internet

*Students may participate in a Simulation Lab in lieu of direct Long Term Care (LTC) clinicals as a result of COVID-19 or other declared emergency. Determination will be at the direction of the State of Texas Department of Health and Human Services.

Students must pass the classroom portion of the program in order to participate in clinical. Students must complete both classroom and clinical portions of the program to sit for the Texas Nurse Aide exam.

On completion of the program, students will schedule their final written and skills exam which is administered by Prometric. The examination fee, $125.00, is included in the program tuition. The Texas Nurse Aide exam is a program requirement and may serve as a final exam.

A digital certificate of completion will be issued into Complio after the student attempts the Texas Nurse Aide exam. A physical certificate may be picked up at the Continuing Education office.
