Facility: The Globe Theater, The Anne Hathaway House, and The Black Box
Location: The Globe Complex
Description: The octagonal theater was the brainchild of a local teacher and Shakespearean scholar, Mrs. Marjorie Morris. The theater is a replica of the original Globe Theater which was the home of William Shakespeare’s acting company in England. Built in the 1960’s by a non-profit organization the theater presented classical and modern plays using an Elizabethan thrust style stage and seats 410. The Globe Theater features a small half circle orchestra pit that seats roughly 7-8 musicians, has four private dressing rooms and two group dressing rooms and is equipped with full audio and lighting capabilities.
The Anne Hathaway House next door is a replica of the cottage in which Shakespeare’s wife lived, has two small areas for meetings and dining with access to a small kitchen and a larger second floor meeting area. Adjacent to The Globe Theater and The Anne Hathaway House is The Black Box, a simple block and steel facility with a meeting space of 2,475 sq. ft. with a 16’ ceiling. The room has flexible seating and can accommodate a concert style seating arrangement, tables and chairs, or an open floor plan ideal for meetings, seminars, private events, and live performances.
The Black Box has restrooms and a small lobby but has no permanent in-house sound or lighting equipment.
Audio/Visual Capabilities: Presentation capabilities can be enhanced further in all of the globe Complex facilities by deploying a media cart and portable sound system. The Media cart includes: cart, laptop, LCD projector, portable screen (if needed) and a power strip. The Portable sound system includes: Seven channel mixing board with inputs for microphones and instruments with an auxiliary channel for smart phone/IPod and two 250 watt speakers.
