Continuing Education - Law Enforcement Training

Special Instructions:

Course occupancy restrictions are in place to ensure proper distancing and spacing. Attendees are required to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of class, as there is a requirement for temperature checks before being admitted into the building. Attendees are also required to wear PPE (face coverings) while in the building. PPE will be provided if necessary.

Attendee must bring their PID # to receive TCOLE credit for the course. To promote a professional environment, Odessa College requires proper business casual attire. No meals provided with training.

Odessa College LETA reserves the right to cancel a class that does not meet the minimum number of registered attendees at least seven business days before the class start date. In those circumstances, OC-LETA will provide a full refund. Students who wish to cancel their registration must cancel online via email or notify OC at least seven business days prior to the course date in order to receive a refund. There will be a $10 administrative fee for processing the refund. 

"No shows" and student cancellations made less than seven business days prior to the start of class may be charged the full course fee. Partial attendance will not be permitted

Civilian Interaction Training - Program, TCOLE #30418

The Community Safety Education Act (SB30) seeks to enhance the Texas drivers understanding on how to act when being stopped by law enforcement. The Community Safety Education Act (SB30) will standardize the training received by Texas drives and law enforcement officers. The Act mandates that high school students and students receiving driver education and driver safety training receive consistent training in expected behaviors.

TCOLE - SAFVIC (TCOLE COURSE #3264) 24 Credit Hours

The Sexual Assault Family Violence Investigator Course (SAFVIC) is designed to provide Texas law enforcement officers and 911 dispatchers with the tools they need to effectively investigate, handle, and prevent sexual assault and family violence calls. SAFVIC is funded by a grant from the Criminal Justice Division, Office of the Governor, and the National Violence Against Women Office. SAFVIC was developed by a statewide steering committee composed of representatives from law enforcement, prosecution, and victim services. The SAFVIC Program uses a network of certified trainers to deliver our training’s on a local basis, thus enabling more officers and telecommunicators across the state access to this very important training.

Basic Instructor Course, TCOLE #1014

This Basic Instructor Certification course is designed to provide the basic concepts of instruction and to increase the quality of professional law enforcement training. This course introduces the student to the teaching-learning process, phases of the teaching-learning process, factors affecting learning, needs assessment, task analysis, developing learning objectives, preparing a lesson plan, and methods of instruction. The students will be taught how to develop and use instructional media to enhance their presentations. In addition, the fundamental techniques of developing testing and evaluation procedures will be presented. Each trainee must demonstrate the basic knowledge and skills required to effectively instruct a lesson during two teaching exercises which will be evaluated by two instructors.

Canine Encounters, TCOLE #4065

On an average peace officers will encounter a dog in one out of three residences to which they respond. The Canine Encounters course is designed to meet law enforcement officers’ educational requirements as established by legislature in HB 593.
