Criminal Justice

The field of criminal justice presents a challenging field of study for people interested in public service. The ever increasing problem of crime, as well as continued population growth, provides many opportunities to those who have prepared themselves through education and training. This program provides an avenue to obtain an associate in applied science degree in criminal justice. The associate degree program consists of both criminal justice and academic courses. It serves as the first two years of study for the baccalaureate degree in criminal justice or law enforcement in many senior colleges and universities.

Law Enforcement

Are you interested in serving your community, fighting crime, and bringing criminals to justice? The Odessa College Law Enforcement Training Academy (OCLETA) leads the way in preparing individuals for a career in quality and contemporary law enforcement service. The OCLETA instructors will provide progressive instruction with a strong focus on real world examples and application. They will explore current law enforcement issues and develop critical thinking skills while reinforcing uncompromising ethics and integrity of the academy participants.

In additional to the traditional Criminal Justice Associate Degrees and Certificates, the Odessa College Criminal Justice Department is proud to offer the following degree and certificate designed to enhance the skills of law enforcement practitioners.

Associate of Applied Sciences in Criminal Justice Leadership

The Odessa College Criminal Justice Department now offers a comprehensive online learning program for an AAS Degree in Criminal Justice Leadership. The degree should be of particular interest to law enforcement administrators, police chiefs, sheriffs, and other law enforcement leaders seeking to enhance, expand, and update the knowledge base and skill sets of either themselves or their department personnel.

Crime Scene Investigator Certificate

The Odessa College Criminal Justice Department announces the new Criminalistics certification program in the field of Crime Scene Investigation. The Criminalistics certification is specifically designed for those law enforcement officers and investigators seeking to improve or add to their skill set with proper methods of identifying, collecting, and preserving evidence. The program focuses on methodology and criteria for scientific evaluation, the various types of evidence encountered by law enforcement officers and investigators in the field, and proper procedures to be followed during death investigations. The Criminalistics certificate will prepare the student to either pursue a career as a Crime Scene Technician, or provide a solid foundation for the student to pursue a degree in forensic science.
